Dr. Steven G. Geanopulos Chiropractor and Wellness Expert
Dr. Geanopulos is uniquely qualified to lead you to your goals for health and wellness. He has been in private practice and serving the community of upper Manhattan for more than a decade. He attained his post graduate education in neurology and was awarded diplomate status from the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. Dr. Geanopulos has extensive experience presenting the latest information on health, wellness, nutrition, and the nervous system to various groups, organizations and academic institutions. He participated in a successful multidisciplinary effort to apply principles of neuroscience for the care of children suffering from various developmental disorders such as autism and ADHD.
In addition to post graduate work in neurology Dr. Geanopulos has pursued an education in Functional Medicine (applying a unique understanding of blood chemistry, immunology, endocrinology, brain chemistry, and GI function) this unique set of skills gives Dr. Geanopulos the insight he needs to remove “interference” so you may reach your potential for healing and health.
Upon entering private practice in NYC, doctor Geanopulos began to realize that treating people with various, common, chronic disorders were becoming increasingly difficult. “People would come in to my office with various complaints, and given the health status of the average NYC resident, I had no shortage of patients. I saw that people were entering my office in a state of crisis, I would provide relief of their symptoms and send them back out, into the world that got them into their particular condition to begin with. If their trouble should return, as it invariably would, they would come back for the same relief weeks, months or years later.”
“This approach is similar to going on a fad diet losing 20 lbs, then gaining back 25lbs over the next year and going back to the same program for weight loss again and again. This pattern and its causes became glaringly obvious to me in 2003 when my family lost my father George P. Geanopulos to cancer. A disease brought about by years of lifestyle stress. We racked our brains in the short amount of time we had to find some miracle alternative cure; conventional medicine was not offered. We refused to give up hope. After my father passed I began to realize I had all of the information in the world to save his life if we only got started many years before.”
“My fathers problem was behavior patterns, ingrained belief systems, a lack of the basic understanding of human requirements for the expression of health, a sense of urgency, a sense of responsibility, and some one to act as his guide or coach in the process of, deliberate change and Creating Wellness. I knew exactly what had led to my fathers’ decline, and I was seeing it in other members of my family, in myself, and of course in most of my patients. I had a moral dilemma. I felt it was necessary not only to meet my patients expectations of symptom relief but it was my responsibility to not let them leave my office without a clear understanding of the implications of their life habits and choices.”
An understanding that the same life habits which resulted in poor spinal health, and possibly a pain syndrome are the very same choices that will eventually result in poor general health and the conditions that are killing most Americans today, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, obesity, depression and anxiety, among others.
“It became necessary to educate people and give them choices to make for themselves; I was not going to allow myself and other doctors to continue to make those choices for them, leaving them in the dark, subject to unscientific claims made by marketers and erroneous conventional wisdom on television, in magazines, and newspapers, such as the idea that the above mentioned diseases are the result of poor genetics.”
We began to apply a program to systematically Create Wellness in our practice. We addressed all three dimensions of a persons life; physical, biochemical, and mental/psychological because without addressing all three you cannot create true wellness and permanent change.”
We at New Heights Chiropractic are looking forward to being a part of your journey to health and well being.
